Infant Homer Forgey in 1913

This photograph initiated the formation of Eternal Star. While going through his late father's belongings, Dr. William Forgey noted this picture of his father as an infant, being held by Grandma Forgey taken in April 1913. The high probability dawned upon Doc that within 80 years this photo and any information about the people on it, would be destroyed and lost forever. Little Homer Forgey, his left arm outstretched to the future, seemed too precious to loose.

Various methods of preserving the photo seemed futile. The main problem would be eventual loss of immediate descendents who would know much about Homer or his mother, Ethel (Martin) Forgey. And no matter how many copies were made of the photo, even if it was placed on DVDs or CDs, all of these would eventual face physical destruction. The only solution was the internet!

With the ability to store pictures, text, and other material electronically, in multiple locations, with a web of interconnections, the internet is virtually indestructible. The internet provides the perfect solution for long-term preservation of material that can be turned into digital data.

The next issue was to establish a trust account that could be used to maintain the financial requirements of hosting the site over the next centuries. This was accomplished with the kind help and encouragement of the Mercantile Bank of Indiana.

To make the project happen, Doc contacted four friends with expertise in publishing, information technology, marketing, and management, to establish Eternal Star, Inc.

These five friends formed the Board of Directors:

William W. Forgey, M.D., President
Thomas A. Todd, Vice-President
Glenn L. Ford, Secretary-Treasurer
David A. Scott
Charles Creech

The concept is for Eternal Star to be user-friendly and service oriented. A listing on the Eternal Star site should be a matter of pride and security for every member. Pride of content, and security in knowledge that the material displayed will be viewable on the internet or its successors for generations.

The Board pledges its hard work and diligence in the sincere effort to preserve memories of our generation for future generations.
